“Bringing Health Prime into my practice was the single best business decision I’ve made in my professional career.”

When Mitch Gittelman left a hospital group to start his own practice, he knew he was trading one boss for another—several thousand patients. That suited this family care physician just fine. What he didn’t anticipate was how the additional effort of running a business would detract from delivering care.
“I had an in-house billing manager, but that person was also the office manager—they did everything from ordering toner to filling in at the front desk when someone was out. And in the back of my head, I knew that if someone went on vacation, if someone got sick, there was going to be a delay in getting paid.”
Cash collections are always important, but even more so for smaller practices where an inability to get paid may impact the ability to employ people or keep the office open. Yet owning this critical function with his own staff proved to be a challenge. Gittelman’s practice went through five office managers over a seventeen-year period. It wasn’t until a colleague suggested he consider Health Prime as his revenue cycle partner that he found the stability he’d been searching for.
“Bringing Health Prime into my practice was the single best business decision I’ve made in my professional career,” Gittelman says. “Hands down, period, end of story.”
Dr. Gittelman has plenty of examples to choose from, all of which include an emphasis on communication and teamwork. “If people aren’t showing up for office visits, Health Prime will call me and say ‘Dr. Gittelman, we’ve been looking at your schedule and notice you have a 15% no-show rate, how do you think we could improve that?’ Then we’ll go through iterations to find what works best. But we’ll do it together, with Health Prime identifying the problem and pointing out possible solutions.” Dr. Gittleman also cites graphical reporting and the weekly calls with his operations consultant as key to his practice’s performance.
Another story involves renegotiating one of his payor contracts. “I asked Health Prime how quickly and how much I was getting paid by my other insurance companies,” Gittelman says. “In one week, not only did I get a report back showing what I asked for, they gave me my top twenty codes so that I could focus on the most meaningful types of visits. They also benchmarked them so I could see which payors were above or below Medicare.” Gittelman adds that he was able to complete a successful negotiation with the payor due in no small part to Health Prime’s assistance.
“You can trust them. They’ve never given me the runaround, never bent the story, the numbers are the numbers.”
At the end of the day, there’s one key thing Dr. Gittelman says he would want other practices considering Health Prime to know. “You can trust them. They’ve never given me the runaround, never bent the story, the numbers are the numbers. Ask a question and they’ll give you an answer,” he says.
“I feel like I owe this company because they’ve made my life so easy.”
